5 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Video Shoot Day

March 28, 2017

I’m very careful with my money, in all aspects of my life. That doesn’t mean I’m cheap (although some might argue with that). It just means that if I’m going to spend money on a quality product or service, I want to get the most out of that quality product or service.

We believe in that philosophy and apply it to every project we do. Here are 5 ways the Manley Creative Team ensures our clients get the most out of a production day.

Think Beyond One Video

Even though we have a strong focus on the goals and final deliverable for a particular shoot day, we’re always thinking beyond that. I want our clients to get as much as possible in that one day. For example, if we’re shooting a video about our client’s community outreach effort, we also gather extra shots and interviews that can be used for shorter social media videos. We think about shots we can use in future commercials or company culture videos. There’s an endless need for quality video content and we want our clients to save money and time by giving them more than what they ask for.

Incorporating Still Photography

For many of our clients, they need still photography just as much as they need video assets. That’s why we also have an in-house still photography team. As often as we can, we organize the day to include still photography. It takes a little more time to lay out a plan in pre-production, but it pays off for our clients. It saves them time and money because they don’t have to pay for an extra day of shooting.

A Clear and Concise Call Sheet

For every video shoot, we create a call sheet for our clients. A call sheet is a minute-by-minute break down of the shoot schedule for the day. It lets everyone know where  to be and when to be there. This is an extremely important tool in ensuring every single person involved with the production is on the same page. The more organized we are, the more organized our clients are. And, you guessed it; it saves them time and money.

Have a Plan B

We always have a backup plan. Believe me, we never want to use it, but it’s there in case we need to. We’ve had all kinds of things happen on video shoots. I could write a book about the curveballs we’ve been thrown over the years. But, not a single one has ever stopped us from moving on with the day and getting finished on time, because we always have a backup plan. By now, you know why. We don’t want to waste our clients’ valuable time and money.

Keep it Clean

When you work with us, you’ll notice that we are neat freaks. We need to be able to find equipment immediately. So, all of our cases are labeled and our equipment neatly stowed away, ready to be used the moment we need it. We set up charging stations for all of our batteries. A computer is set up and ready to dump video footage and stills at a moment’s notice. Video and audio cables are covered, taped down or out of the way to prevent accidents. We do this because every minute counts in a day of shooting. We also want our clients to feel comfortable at the shoot. The neater we are, the more efficient we are. And, the more efficient we are, the more we’ll be able to provide our clients with the quality video shoot they want and deserve.

Maxing Out Your Shoot Day

Our clients come back for more time after time because we do all the heavy lifting. Once you’ve experienced a full-scale video shoot day with Manley, you’ll be amazed at how little you need to do. Sit back, enjoy the experience, and watch us work magic for you. Give me call or shoot me an email if you’d like to discuss your video shoot needs. And if you’re interested in hearing them, I’d be happy to share some of the stories about the aforementioned curve balls we’ve dodged over the years.
